Sandown Partnership

Sandown Partnership

In 2000 Sandown Town Council asked volunteers to join a new organisation which would be known as Sandown Community Partnership.  This was to be completely independent, but working and linking closely with the Town Council.  The idea originated from the Government, through the IW Council, and was initially part funded by the IW Council.  By creating a community organisation, the Partnership can bid for funding that is not available to local Councils and they have been very successful.

They have undertaken community development and project work around the town for over the past fourteen years. There are many facilities that are enjoyed by Islanders and visitors that have been overseen by the Partnership including the beach-front skate park and football arena, and most recently their new Adizone outdoor gym which was undertaken in partnership with Adidas as part of its sponsorship of the London Olympic Games.  Their greatest achievement was in being awarded £250,000 from the Market Towns Initiative to be spent on Sandown improvements -  garden enhancement at the Dinosaur Museum, decorative High Street lighting to name but a few.

The Partnership still has a very close relationship with the Town Council, and has representatives of the Council as part of its membership.  It consists of 15 members, under the Chairmanship of Ronnie Teasdale who can be contacted via the Secretary, Jacquie Mereweather at jacquie.mereweather@btopenworld.com
